AfterWords LITERARY FESTIVAL
Reading Friday, November 3, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
Take an afternoon break at AfterWords, and let a writer read to you. Friday, November 3 at Morley’s/Taz Records/Friction Books in Dartmouth, hear William Ping, Tiffany Morris, and Nicola Davison read from their latest work.
Workshop Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 3:30 p.m.
We’ve got two free workshops at AfterWords this year, and they’re both happening on Saturday, November 4 at Halifax Central Library. Shauntay Grant leads a workshop for adults who write for kids on navigating the Children’s Lit industry, and Nicola Davison offers a workshop for young writers ages 12 to 17 on building memorable characters.
Workshop spots are limited and they fill up fast.

It will include a reading, Nicola in conversation with award-winning author Sarah Sawler, as well as refreshments, and books for sale and signing.

Booktoberfest October 24 - 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Halifax Central Library's Paul O'Regan Hall. This event is being put on by the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia. Booktoberfest is a great big book bash celebrating authors who released books with little fanfare during the pandemic. A gathering of over 40 local authors, there'll be readings, mingling, signings and snacks. Woozles and Bookmark will be on hand if you'd like to purchase a book or two and have a chat with the author(s).

The Writing Rumble
Competitor/Writer/Word Wrestler - Nicola "Headshot" Davison on the team of YA authors "Coming of Rage"
On Tuesday, Feb 28 (2:30 pm – 7pm), two teams of Nova Scotia authors—Coming of Rage and The Draft Dodgers—will compete over 6 hours to write the best short story at Propeller Brewing Co. (2015 Gottingen St, Halifax). During the writing process, all are welcome to drop in, libate and mingle with fellow writers, watch (via projector) the writing process, cheer or jeer the Rumble participants, and make on-site donations to assign mandatory writing prompts to either team.
At 7:30pm, both stories will be read to those assembled, and the winning story will be determined by applause.

Decoding Dot Grey was a finalist for a White Pine Award
Panel discussion: difficult topics in contemporary YA with fellow nominees for the Ann Connor Brimer Award, Jo Treggiari, and Vicki Grant at the Lunenburg School of the Arts on June 4th from 2-3:30.
Afterward, authors will be signing books at Block Shop Books in Lunenburg.
